At Baby Otter Swim School, the answer to whether you need to be certified to teach swim lessons is a resounding yes. A Program Designed by Experts

The Founders’ Commitment

Our program was designed over 40 years ago by one of our founders, Marlene Bloom. Marlene has a bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from Florida Atlantic University and a Master’s Degree in Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Her daughter’s fearless nature around water led her to develop a unique and effective approach to swim instruction. This necessity-driven innovation has evolved into the Turn, Kick, Reach® Swimming program, now recognized as the world’s fastest learn-to-swim program.

Co-founders Mindy York and Marlene Bloom have dedicated their lives to water safety. Mindy’s involvement with Baby Otter began after a harrowing experience when her 17-month-old child nearly drowned. This incident propelled her into a lifelong mission to prevent drownings. Together, Mindy and Marlene have been perfecting their program and saving lives for over four decades. Their personal experiences and professional expertise have shaped Baby Otter Swim School into a beacon of safety and excellence in swim education.

State Accreditation: A Mark of Excellence

Our programs meet the same high standards as those set by the Red Cross, ensuring that every lesson is conducted with the utmost care and professionalism. This state certification is a testament to the quality and effectiveness of our teaching methods.

Extensive Instructor Training

Our instructors undergo one of the most extensive training programs in the industry. With over 30 days of in-water training required to become certified, our instructors are well-prepared to handle a variety of situations and student needs. This rigorous training ensures that they can provide the best possible instruction and support to every child.

A Passion for Drowning Prevention

At Baby Otter Swim School, our passion and commitment to saving children from drowning are unwavering. We are considered drowning prevention experts in the field of aquatics, and our mission is to make sure no family has to experience the tragedy of drowning. Our program’s success over the past 40 years is a testament to our dedication and expertise.

Our approach is not just about teaching children to swim; it’s about building their confidence and equipping them with essential water survival skills. Our Turn, Kick, Reach® program is designed to teach children as young as nine months old how to stay safe in the water. This early introduction to swimming helps children become comfortable and confident swimmers from a young age.

Our staff has over 75 years of combined experience and has been voted #1 by our parents and South Florida Parenting magazine. We take pride in the trust and satisfaction of our community, and we strive to maintain the highest standards of swim instruction. Our recognition by South Florida Parenting magazine further validates our position as leaders in swim education.
