The Season is Here for Children Ready to Hop in the Pool and Make a Big Splash

As spring approaches and the weather warms, swimming season is almost upon us. While drownings are not seasonal, events can happen at any time. The warming weather makes children much likelier to head to a pool or other body of water to play and splash around. This makes it important for you to consider enrolling your children in swim lessons with the Baby Otter Swim School. We provide age-appropriate swimming instruction to children of all ages, including those under three with our proprietary Turn, Kick, Reach® method. Baby Otter is a traveling swim school that offers swim lessons in your pool. Here’s what to consider when you are preparing for the upcoming swimming season.

  1. Does your child know what to do if they fall into a body of water?

Children of all ages are drawn to water. Each year, many children across the U.S. drown after falling into bodies of water. Ask yourself if your child would know what to do if they fell into a body of water such as a pool. If they wouldn’t, it’s time to sign your child up for lessons with Baby Otter Swim School. With our Turn, Kick, Reach® program, children as young as nine months can learn what to do if they fall into a pool in under 2 1/2 hours.

  1. Have you secured your pool fence and attached alarms to the door?

Your pool must be enclosed by a fence that prevents children from crawling through its slats by climbing over and/or under it. Before you open your pool for the season, walk around your fence to ensure it’s in good working order. It should have a locking gate, and any objects that a child could climb to get over the fence should be moved. You should also have alarms attached to any doors or windows that open out to the pool area so that you can quickly respond if one of your children leaves your house and heads for the pool.

  1. How long has it been since they’ve been swimming?

If your children have not been swimming for several months, it’s a good idea for them to get a refresher on their swimming skills. Like other skills, swimming requires practice. If your children have completed a basic course in the past, consider enrolling them in swimming classes at the next level for continued improvement of their swimming abilities so they are prepared to enjoy the season safely.

  1. Take a water survival course or refresher before the start of the swim season!

A water survival course or a refresher course should be taken before the beginning of the swim season. This course helps students learn what to do if they find themselves in a large body of water.

  1. Baby Otter offers multiple instruction levels from water survival to swim team training!

Baby Otter Swim School isn’t just for toddlers and babies. We offer multiple instruction levels for people of all ages from nine months up. Regardless of your age or swimming level, we have a course that is suited for you.
